The United States is the result of the principle that people are better off when they are free to pursue their own happiness. People are better off when they are allowed to live their lives as they choose.

They are better off when they are allowed to develop their own intelligence, abilities, skills, etc., without being told what to do. The people in this country have been given these rights because they are much stronger when they have them.
